The plot

The film opens with Batman rescuing a hostage situation created by Two-Face, who used to be the district attorney Harvey Dent but Two-Face is enable to escape. Edward Nygma, who is a researcher at Batman’s company Wayne Enterprises develops a gadget to beam television directly into a person's brain. Batman as Bruce Wayne doesn’t like the idea and Nygma resigns from his job.
Bruce Wayne meets Dr. Chase Meridian and invites her to a charity event. Two-Face and his gang raid the cirkus and the acrobat family The Flying Graysons are murdered except Dick, who stops a bomb blowing up. Wayne takes care of Dick and lets him at the Wayne Manor. Dick swears revenge, and when he discovers that Wayne is Batman, he insists on helping him fight crime as "Robin".
Meanwhile, Nygma has it in for Wayne, leaving riddles for him and making his life difficult. He decides to become a criminal known as "The Riddler" and makes a pact with Two-Face. Using his invention, Nygma can read and control people's minds, and steal their I.Q. With this he finds out Batman's secret identity, while Robin saves Wayne's life. Two-Face and Riddler break into the Wayne Manor and the Bat-cave, destroying lots of  equipment, and leaving a riddle.
Solving the riddle, Batman and Robin locate the Riddler's hide-out.However Robin and Chase Meridian become hostages. Yet again Batman has to solve a riddle. Batman destroys the brainwave-collecting gadget and the Riddler is put out of play. During the battle, Two-Face falls to his death. The Riddler has to go to prison.He tries to make a deal with Meridian but she refuses and tells Batman his secret is safe.

Cast
Val Kilmer replaced Michael Keaton as Batman. Chris O'Donnell plays his companions Robin and Nicole Kidman turns him on as Dr. Chase Meridian. Who else at that time than Jim Carrey could be the Riddler and Tommy Jones is scary as Two-Face.

Prizes and Reviews

Batman Forever received three Oscar nominations. As an action-popcorn cinema film it convinced the fans and critics. Directed by Joel Schumacher the former gloomy Burton Batman becomes a colorful comic hero.
