Hstory of the X-Men

Marvel Comics | X-Men - The comic History of the X-Men

Who are the X-Men?

The X-Men are a group of mutants. They have their extraordinary skills from birth unlike many other superheroes, who have theirs are a result of an accident. The founder of the X-Men is Charles Francis Xavier (Professor X), who has set himself the task of training the group of teenagers to have better use of their extraordinary powers. The goal of the X-Men is to help or fight misguided mutants.
The group of X-Men have been changed quite often. Originally belonging to the group were Cyclops, Marvel Girl, Angel, Beast and Iceman. Later characters like Wolverine, Storm and Colossus were part of the group.

Super personnel and equipment
Professor X has telepathic abilities. Each member of the X-Men has at least a special super power. Cyclops can shoot radiation strays with his eyes, Marvel Girl can do telekinesis, Angel can fly, Beast has an exceptional physical strength or Iceman can make things turn to ice.

The X-Men universe

In the world of the X-Men, people live in fear of mutants. This is not entirely wrong, because some mutants have maliciously turned against the people and terrible things have been done. But most of the mutants are against that sort of thing. Often, the relationship between mutants and humans has been made in connection with the racial conflicts in the U.S or other groups that have been oppressed. The X-Men fight for equal rights and a better understanding between all people.

Friends and foes of the X-Men

The greatest enemy of the X-Men is the mutant Magneto, with his team, the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants, willing to dominate the human race. They use their magnetic forces to inflict terrible damage and they bring the X-Men often to the brink of defeat. His evil character is explained through him being traumatized in the Holocaust. For a short time Magneto even swaps sides, but soon he returns to being their bitter rival.
Over the years, many new mutants have come to the series and left it again.

The History of Comics

Like many other superheroes of the Marvel universe, the X-Men were created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby.  Their first issue was published in 1963, but the number was not overly popular. Only in 1975 when the "Giant-Size X-Men" were released, a large and loyal following started to form. The formation of the group had changed completely. From the original version only Cyclops remains. The most popular character of today seems to be Wolverine.
In the 1980s created several offshoots of the series, the so-called "X-books," whose plots with the original X-Men crossover in special spending were intertwined under the name "X-overs". In the 1990s, there was a reunification of the original X-Men and as a consequence, there were two separate groups, the "Blue Team" and the "Golden Team". The first book of this era, with the simple title "X-Men" has become the most successful comic book of all time. Worldwide, 8 million copies have been sold. In recent years, the new author Grant Morrison has introduced many new characters. Morrison has already giving them a new flavor and there is no end of the X-Men in sight.
